STANAG (Standardization Agreement), üyesi
ülkelerin askeri alandaki standartlarını belirleyen bir bildirimdir.
NATO üyesi ülkeler ürettiği bütün askeri malzemeler de bu standartlara
uymak zorundadır. Standartlara ulaşması için, ordusu modernize
gerektiren ülkelere diğer ülkeler yardım etmektedir. Bu direkt olarak
malzemeyi vermekten çok teknoloji/bilgi transferi ile olur. STANAG
İngilizce ve Fransızca olarak iki dilde hazırlandı. NATO Standartlarını
belirleyen merkez ajans Brüksel'dedir. STANAG'a örnek olarak STANAG'ın
silahların mermi ölçülerin belirleyen standardı verilebilir. Böyle birçok
standartlandırma getirilmiş ve bunlar STANAG's (STANAG'lar) olarak
adlandırılmıştır.
