Richard Steinhart is a professor of philosophy at the City University of New York. He is known for his work in environmental philosophy, animal ethics, and existentialism. Steinhart has published numerous articles and books on these topics, including "Duties to Animals and the Metaphysics of Speciesism," "The Philosophy of Existentialism," and "Heidegger and Aquinas: An Essay on Overcoming Metaphysics." He also co-edited a book on environmental ethics, "An Environmental History of Twentieth Century Britain." Steinhart is an active member of the American Philosophical Association and has lectured extensively on his research in the United States and abroad.
