Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist, or Shimoneta for short, is a Japanese anime and manga series. It was written and illustrated by Hirotaka Akagi and was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine from July 2012 to May 2016.
The story takes place in a dystopian future where the government has enforced strict laws against any form of indecency or obscenity, including jokes related to such topics. The main character, Tanukichi Okuma, becomes a member of an anti-government organization called SOX that aims to bring back the freedom of speech and expression.
The anime adaptation of the series aired in July 2015 and consists of 12 episodes. It was produced by J.C. Staff and directed by Youhei Suzuki. The series gained controversy for its explicit content and themes but received positive reviews for its humor and satire.
In addition to the anime and manga, a light novel adaptation and a video game have also been released. The series has gained a cult following among fans of comedy and satire, but its mature content makes it recommended for mature audiences only.
