Pronouns are words that are used in place of a noun or a noun phrase. They are used to avoid repetition and to make sentences less awkward or more efficient. Examples of pronouns include he, she, it, they, and we. Pronouns can be further categorized as personal pronouns (referring to people and sometimes animals) such as I, you, he/she/it, we, and they, possessive pronouns (showing ownership) such as mine, yours, his/hers/its, ours, and theirs, reflexive pronouns (referring back to the subject of the sentence) such as myself, yourself, himself/herself/itself, ourselves, and themselves, and demonstrative pronouns (pointing to something) such as this, that, these, and those.
