Philo of Alexandria is also known as Philopappos. He was a Stoic philosopher and a high-ranking official in the Roman Empire, who lived in the 1st century AD. He was the son of King Antiochus IV of Commagene, and his mother was a Greek princess named Julia Balbilla. Philopappos was appointed as a consul by the Roman Emperor Trajan and later became governor of Cilicia in modern-day Turkey. He is famous for the monument that bears his name, the Philopappos Monument, in Athens, Greece. This monument was built in his honor after his death and is a popular tourist attraction.
