Ngark (also known as Ngark-Mpèlkri) is a language spoken in the Far North region of Cameroon. It belongs to the Afro-Asiatic language family and is part of the Chadic branch.
Ngark is spoken by approximately 20,000 people primarily in the villages of Mpèlkri, Ngargol, Ngarkhouba, and Ngoudeniti. It is a minority language with no official recognition or use in education, government, or media.
The grammar of Ngark is characterized by a system of noun classes and verb agreement, much like other Chadic languages. Its phonology features a range of consonants, including ejectives and implosives, and a vowel system with three lengths and several phonemic qualities.
There is a growing interest in documenting and preserving Ngark, as well as promoting its use and recognition within the community.
